Research Interests:

My research is centered on understanding how patterns in vertebrate evolution—specifically alligators and lystrosaurid dicynodonts—relate to their interactions with their environment, and what big-picture questions we can address with them.

Recent Projects:

Systematics of Alligatorinae, including an undescribed new species from Southern California
Biogeographic history of Alligatorinae and implications for terrestrial corridors between continents throughout the Cenozoic
Morphology associated with alligatorine feeding ecology and its bearing on Cope's "Law of the Unspecialized"
Diversity dynamics of alligatorines with respect to Cenozoic climate change
Volunteer fieldworker at the Natural Trap Cave dig in Wyoming
The taxonomy of Chinese Lystrosaurus
A critique of methods used to find sexual dimorphism in dicynodonts; morphological shifts in Lystrosaurus through the end-Permian extinction and possible adaptations for surviving it.
